Gulf Coast Permanent Cased Drilled Piles

Not all ground is created equal, and likewise, not all ground is ideal for drilling into. If you’re looking to drill piles into the ground for a commercial or industrial construction project, but the ground you’re going to be drilling into is unstable to the point where drilled holes can’t be stabilized, then you’ll have to consider cased piles. Cased piles use a steel pipe that runs the entire length of the drilled shaft to stabilize the ground and allow for the pile itself to be installed. This is the only proven technology that allows for the installation of large-diameter shafts in soil that otherwise would be conducive to caving conditions.

At Superior Foundations, our engineers and construction crews have completed a wide variety of projects in a number of different environments. We’re one of the only companies throughout the Gulf Coast area to be able to offer our services for virtually any commercial or industrial-scale project. We proudly serve clients throughout Texas, Gulf Coast, Mississippi, and Alabama.

How Permanent Cased Drilled Piles Work

If you have ever tried to build a sandcastle, you know that loose sand is a terrible material to form a foundation out of. The same can be said for your building construction project — layers of underground sand, gravel, rubble, or other loose materials can add tremendous instability to any drilled pile. In most cases, these drilled shafts can be stabilized, but this isn’t always the case. When there is too much instability in the soil, the shaft itself needs to be reinforced before the pier can be poured.

To do this, our engineers press a metal tube into the drilled shaft to provide an extra layer of solid material that will both provide support to the soil around the pile and act like a form for the pile to fill during pouring. This casing is permanent and remains in the ground as a part of your foundation.

Permanent cased drilled piles are an optimal choice for projects in unstable soil, including:

  • Loose sands
  • Large quantities of gravel
  • Cobbled soil
  • Soil, sand, or gravel with boulders

During the process of casing a drilled shaft, specialized grab tools can remove boulders without any sort of major interruption to the excavation process. And because this process only relies on water, there are no environmental concerns from the drilling process. In fact, oscillator or rotator machines can even install casings without the noise pollution of impact hammers or vibration machines, and makes this method possible even in noise-sensitive environments.

Superior Foundations offers world-class foundation installation services in even the most difficult soil conditions. Contact us by filling out our form and let us talk with you about your project.
